It’s time to start thinking outside the box. Here’s what’s next in our fight for food equity 💡🌾

We are grateful to share that the past few weeks have been busy ones for us, despite the recent massive government layoffs, ongoing uncertainty around the future of federal funding, and the very unfortunate news that the House voted last week in favor of a budget that promises to gut SNAP and Medicaid funding across the country. We guided some clients’ applications over the finish line of the NYS Grown and Certified grant last week, and have been onboarding a few new clients whose growth we’re excited to support in the coming months.

It’s also Women’s History Month (shout out to folks like Lady Farmer and Upendo Estates for making female farmers more visible in the mainstream), which has us thinking a lot about our sustained hopes that all of the things we believe so fundamentally in – equality, security, opportunity, prosperity – will prevail in the long run.

But how will that happen? In part, by thinking outside the box, we think. We’ve started looking more into funding pipelines from DAFs (donor-advised funds), in addition to nonprofit initiatives like the Rockefeller Foundation’s Food is Medicine program (which supports organizations we love like Mujeres Adelantes and the Hawai’i Good Food Alliance) and the National Farm to School Network’s Farm to Cafeteria Conference (which is happening for the first time in seven years!).
