Why we’re hopeful about our food future 🥬🕊️Hello neighbors, It’s hard to believe that another presidential campaign season is coming to a close – somehow it both feels like the last one just happened, and like so much has happened since the last one. With so much on the line both domestically and around the world, it’s easy to feel anxious about what the coming days, weeks and months will hold as the country turns the page from one administration to another. 🥬🕊️ But there’s a lot to be excited about, too: In the last month alone, the USDA has announced $100 million in funding for food and farming initiatives to support underserved, veteran and beginning farmers, urban agriculture and innovative production, and food and nutrition security programs across the U.S. And with support for projects that not too long ago were deemed unthinkably radical now becoming increasingly mainstream, like allocating funds to help farmers mitigate the effects of climate change and utilizing cannabis taxes to fund youth grants, it’s not hard to let our minds wander with possibilities for what’s next: nationwide agribusiness education programs…carbon zero production facilities…solar panel rooftop gardens… If there was ever a time to lean into hope, now is it.
